Weekly Weigh In: Week 6, July 29, 2019

I have decided to do a new feature that will run at least through the summer, but possibly longer.  It will go live every Monday, and it will be a weigh in that will share how I'm doing health-wise.  This will not replace My Quarterly Report, but I do think it will give me more accountability with my health.

Here is my sixth weigh in:

1. The Selfie: The selfie is me as of today, July 29, 2019.

2. Weight: This last week has been humidity city, so my weight went up a pound (it actually went up 4 pounds, so I am glad it went down to just a 1 pound gain overall).  I cannot express to you enough how frustrating water retention is.  It makes it very difficult to lose weight, especially when you aren't taking anything for it.  That said, I am pretty sure I will not meet the goal I have set for myself for this quarter, but I'm not going to give up!  Also, I have found an herbal water pill from Puritan's Pride that I decided to try to see if it helps.  I talked with my pharmacist about it, and he said he didn't see any interaction warnings for any of the ingredients in the water pill with my thyroid medication, so I ordered the pills today and they should be here by the weekend.  We shall see if they help, and hopefully I won't have any issues with it.  Wish me luck!

3. Health News: I was able to walk an average of over 8,000 steps a day last week due to how busy it was towards the weekend.  I think that's why my weight gain was only a pound vs. 4 overall, if I'm honest.  This week will be insanely busy, so we'll see how many steps I average.  Maybe it will be over 9,000 per day.  We shall see!  Other than getting a decent amount of exercise, I've been doing pretty good health-wise.  The weather has been muggy and stormy off and on, so that tends to lead to at least a little bit of migraine issues and water retention for me.  Thankfully, the migraines haven't been an issue for the most part, but (like I mentioned above) the water retention has been horrible.  This week is to be cooler overall, but still some storms here and there.  Hopefully, my head will cooperate and the weather will be better than predicted storm-wise. :)

4. Diet News:  I'm still working on the portion control, and finding that I am doing a bit better.  Carbs are still my nemesis, so I'm still working on that.  I am trying to get more in the habit of conscious eating vs. eating "just because".  That can be harder than you think some days!  It is easy to turn to food when boredom or pain (emotional or otherwise) hits vs. finding something else to do.  I want to have the right relationship with food.  I don't want it to be my comfort - that's God's Word and prayer's job.  I want to basically eat because it is needed, but also be able to enjoy it with friends/family and not panic over calories because I know that I'm not being excessive in my food portions.  Does that make sense?  I want a nice balance, and I think I'll eventually get there.  :)  Anyway, this week's goal is to be eating aware, and try not to eat out of boredom or pain (emotional or otherwise).

5. Other News: Oh, man!  This week is going to be INSANE!  VBS is a blast, but extremely busy/tiring.  On top of that, there are piano lessons, family things planned, daily housework, side jobs planned, etc.  Phew!  I'm tired just thinking about it!  Did I mention the mountain of laundry I have waiting for me today when I get done with this post?  Yah...It feels like the stereotypical Monday, y'all! LOL :)  Anyway, this too shall pass, and (in the end) it's going to be a good tired that I feel at the end of each day, so it's all good! :)

How are you doing?  Do you have anything you want to weigh in with?  Any health progress or goals you want to share?  If so, please leave a comment below (with a link to your post, if you have one and wish to leave it), and I'll respond ASAP.

Have a great week!
