Essential Oils 101 with Jess - December 2018: Frankincense

Awhile ago, I got curious about essential oils.  A lot of people I know that either prefer natural/herbal medicines or cannot take or use a lot of modern antibiotics due to allergies or other health issues use essential oils.  Because of this, I asked a friend of mine, Jessica, who is an essential oil guru in my opinion, if she'd be willing to do a monthly feature on here for me about essential oils, and she said she'd be delighted to! :)  "Essential Oils 101 with Jess" will go live the first day of every month, and I hope you find the information helpful!  If you're curious about essential oils, this information will be a great starting point for you! (See the disclaimer at the bottom of the post for further information.)

Without further adieu, I give you Jess!

As a wife to a husband who works hard at 50+ hours a week and a stay-at-home Mommy of 2 very busy littles, I simply say, "Hello!  My name is Jess!"  I've been faithfully using my Young Living kit and oils for 2 years now.  I thought that they were just over priced bottles of smelly oils, and it took me a year before I actually USED them in 2016 after my daughter was born and she fell ill.  After a few failed attempts of medicines and research, I made the choice to turn to oils.  The difference within 24 hours sold me out, and now they've become a daily part of my family's lives!  I love to do research upon research to find just what different oils are, what they do, and how I can use them.  My passion to share and teach others continues to grow daily.  Unfortunately, we aren't born with vast amounts of wisdom and knowledge, so that's why I'm here!  I want to make that road a little easier for each of you!

December's Oil of the Month:

 Frankincense (5mL)
(Price listed is for the Vitality version.  You can search the other oils and blends here.)

Winter….Winter….Winter…and, no matter how many times I say it or I type it….I still miss summer!  I am not a snow girl whatsoever, BUT I do LOVE Christmas!  I love to have those massive fluffy snowflakes falling down with beautiful street lights reflecting through the crisp air and sipping a gorgeous hot cup of coffee from our local shop.  I love the smells of fresh desserts swirling through the air as Christmas music lightly echoes around my home.  And I LOVE having a very Christmas sentimental oil diffusing atop our piano as my Mozart-gifted husband plays Christmas hymns!  And what is that oil?  None other than Frankincense!  As in one of the wonderful gifts from the wise men to Christ!

Frankincense is a once considered priceless oil dating back a few thousand years!  Mainly the resin was used as a burning incense for everything from leprosy to toothaches; bug repelling to wound care; eyeliner to skin firming and the list goes on!  So what better oil to celebrate the birth of Christ than the very oil given to Him!

When there is a bug attacking our home and bodies, we grab our old friend Frank!  It goes in a warm tea, it goes in a few drops of coconut oil as an all over moisturizer, and it goes in the warm bubble bath as breathing it in boosts the health of our respiratory system and functions.  But our #1 use is on the spine!  I take 2 drops directly and rub it into the spine of whoever isn’t feeling well.  And if we get that awful headache that accompanies those bugs, then this friendly Frank gets rubbed into the back of the skull and up to the temples.  This oil is AMAZING for the brain, guys!

Ok, so this is one oil that you can literally just open the bottle and use for so many ailments and needs, BUT let me tell you one of the BEST ways I’ve found!  I call them FrankinSalts, and they are amazing!!!  You pour some into your bath and you, my friend, are on the path to immune boosting powers!!!   And that jar?  Have any holidays or celebrations coming up?  Spruce it up with personality and it makes a great gift!

What you'll need:
  • 12oz. Mason Jar

  •  1 cup Epsom Salt (infused or not)

  • 5-10 drops Frankincense Oil*
  1.  Pour the salts into the jar and sprinkle the oil over the salts.

  2. Tighten on the top and shake, shake, SHAKE it up!

  3. Let them sit for at least 24 hours to really peak that infusion.

  4. Bath time!  Pour desired amount into your running bath water, climb in and soak it in!

Notes from Jess:
-Boost it even more with Lavender* or Eucalyptus* essential oils.

-Need to get a detoxifying effect?  Get a 16oz. jar instead and add in 1/2cp baking soda.

-Take your empty oil bottles, toss them into an Epsom Salt bag, and leave them in there until you need the salts!  You will be amazed at your new creation!

And there you have it!  Get to making you some, and get your body boosting against bugs, germs, and enjoy the MANY other health benefits that Frankincense blesses us with!  Need some more ideas?  Shoot me a message and I have more to share!
